What is the Bike to Work Scheme?

The Bike to Work Scheme is a Government-backed initiative that makes buying a new bicycle or e-bike more affordable than ever. By purchasing your bike through your employer, you can save up to 52% off the price of a new e-bike and essential safety equipment.

At our shop, we help customers use the scheme every day—here’s everything you need to know.

How the Scheme Works

Your employer buys the bike and safety gear for you, and you repay the cost through a salary sacrifice over up to 12 months. Since this deduction is made from your gross salary, you pay less Income Tax, USC, and PRSI—meaning a much lower overall cost for you.

If your employer chooses to cover the cost completely, it’s fully tax-free up to the scheme limits.

  • How Much Can You Spend?

    The scheme allows you to purchase:

    • Up to €1,500 for electric bikes (pedelecs)
    • Up to €1,250 for regular bicycles
    • Up to €3,000 for cargo and e-cargo bikes

    These limits include eligible safety equipment such as helmets, lights, locks, and repair kits.

  • What’s Included?

    You can use the scheme to buy:

    • New bicycles, e-bikes, and cargo bikes
    • Safety equipment (helmets, lights, reflective gear, locks, panniers, pumps, and more)

  • Who Can Use the Scheme?

    Most employees in Ireland can apply, as long as:

    • Your employer participates in the scheme
    • The bike is for your own use
    • You will use it mainly for commuting between home and work

    You can avail of the scheme once every 4 years.
